Paediatric Gastroenterology Specialist

Dr Vivek Rajasekaran is a paediatric gastroenterologist and hepatologist, and a GESA CCRTGE accredited paediatric endoscopist. He has expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions including coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, allergic gastrointestinal disorders, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, functional gut disorders, and liver diseases.

Dr Rajasekaran graduated from the National University of Singapore, where he completed his initial paediatric training before relocating to New Zealand. He undertook specialist training in paediatric gastroenterology at Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland, followed by a senior clinical fellowship at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the United Kingdom. His fellowship focused on clinical nutrition, liver disease, and liver and intestinal transplantation. He subsequently worked as a consultant in the United Kingdom before moving to Newcastle.

Dr Rajasekaran has private admitting rights at Hunter Valley Private Hospital at Shortland and Lingard Private Hospital in Merewether.

Urgent consultations are made available for :

• suspicion of IBD and/or raised calprotectin
• ⁠suspicious of coeliac with raised serology
• ⁠dysphagia or choking on food
• ⁠anaemia of severe iron deficiency
• ⁠bleeding per rectum
