Complications following ear wax removal with micro-suction are extremely uncommon. However, the possible complications, side-effects and risks in the procedure include:
– Incomplete removal of ear wax
This will require a return visit, which will incur a further private fee. This occurs due to severely impacted wax, or wax that has been forced down the canal and is too uncomfortable to remove
– Canal trauma
Perforation of the ear drum, minor bleeding, nicks and scratches (which can also lead to minor bleeding and discomfort)
– Dizziness or nausea
The patient should inform the nurse if they feel dizzy or nauseous and the procedure will be paused until the patient feels stable
– Temporary increased tinnitus (ringing of the ear) or hearing loss
